She is a founding member of the workshop co-operative, Clay Collective, based in Hackney in east London. It aims to provide a democratic and supportive space and community in which practitioners can work and collaborate, sharing skills, space, ideas and resources.
Sophie develops and produces objects that explore the relationship between the functional, the sculptural and the narratively suggestive. She says her objects “approach materiality and tactility in a playful way, rejecting the hierarchy of the practically useful art/object within craft or otherwise”.
She is passionate about educating and facilitating. Sophie uses techniques of making to explore and develop an understanding of the artist’s practice. Since 2015, she has developed and delivered workshops and educational programming to organisations such as the Tate Gallery, the Camden Arts Centre, The Whitechapel Gallery, The Craft Council and Somerset House.
